Post‐fire Residual Strength and Ductility of Structural Steels from Hollow Sections

چکیده

Abstract Steel structures are severely affected by the extreme temperatures reached during a fire. After this, if structure has not collapsed, remaining elements can be reused they excessively distorted or material is still fit for service. In last case, residual properties of steel must adequate and fulfil requirements current standards. On this matter, it hypothesized that behaviour only depends on highest temperature fire episode, but also load was simultaneously bearing. This work focused an experimental study post‐fire structural steels. Specimens were cut from (S355) cold‐formed circular hollow sections (CHS) subjected to combination tensile stress high temperature. Afterwards, specimens cooled in air back room and, finally, increased until specimen failure. The obtained results allowed discussing yield strength, ultimate strength stiffness steel, special focus put ductility. provide basis appraisal after fire, supporting further decision its reinstatement subsequent demolition.

Additively manufactured hierarchical stainless steels with high strength and ductility.

Many traditional approaches for strengthening steels typically come at the expense of useful ductility, a dilemma known as strength-ductility trade-off. New metallurgical processing might offer the possibility of overcoming this. Here we report that austenitic 316L stainless steels additively manufactured via a laser powder-bed-fusion technique exhibit a combination of yield strength and tensil...

Dislocation Strengthening without Ductility Trade-off in Metastable Austenitic Steels

Strength and ductility are mutually exclusive if they are manifested as consequence of the coupling between strengthening and toughening mechanisms. One notable example is dislocation strengthening in metals, which invariably leads to reduced ductility. However, this trend is averted in metastable austenitic steels. A one-step thermal mechanical treatment (TMT), i.e. hot rolling, can effectivel...

High-Strength Bainitic Steels

With careful design, mixed microstructures consisting of fine plates of upper bainitic ferrite separated by thin films of stable retained austenite have exhibited impressive combinations of strength and toughness in highsilicon bainitic steels. The silicon suppresses the precipitation of brittle cementite leading to an improvement in toughness. The essential principles governing the optimisatio...

Effect of Residual Stresses on Fatigue Strength of Severely Surface Deformed Steels by Shot Peening

The compressive stress distribution below the specimen surface of severely surface deformed steels by shot peening was investigated by using laboratory X-rays and high-energy X-rays from a synchrotron radiation source, SPring-8 in the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute. Medium carbon steel plates were heat treated in two different conditions. The Vickers hardness of material-A and B...

Ductility of Prestressed and Partially Prestressed Concrete Beam Sections

D analyses of structures responding elastically to ground motions recorded during severe earthquakes have shown that the theoretical response inertia loads are generally significantly greater than the static design lateral loads recommended by codes. Hence, structures designed for the lateral earthquake loads recommended by codes can only survive severe earthquakes if they have sufficient ducti...
